He was running and performing concerts to raise funds for cancer research, celebrating his 60th birthday and his own recovery from this disease.
Sadly, Mr. Berkofsky recently learned from Mr.Migely that his wife had lost her own battle with cancer. He quickly joined Mr. Migely to present a memorial concert together with her already-planned memorial exhibit at Burlington, Iowa's Art Guild.
Mr. Migely has generously decided to donate Lorraine Granieri's Steinway "B" concert grand to the Alan Hovhaness International Research Centre in Yerevan. A dedication concert honoring Mrs. Granieri was given by Mr. Berkofsky this 25th of August, 2007, at Mr. Migely's Chicago home.
Ann Lousin, representing the Chicago chapter of the Armenian General Benevolent Union spoke before the performance thanking Mr. Migely for this rare gift to the music life of Armenia. The blessing was given by Father Dennis O'Neill, a friend of Alan Hovhaness.
With thanks to the Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church and to the United Armenian Fund, this piano is now on its way to Yerevan.
