Three Hovhaness works received their Armenian premieres: Symphony No. 50, Mount St. Helens (1982;) Magnificat, (1958;) and Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra, (1954.) Beethoven's Choral Fantasy with Martin Berkofsky as piano soloist concluded this never-to-be-forgotten concert.
C. F. Peters publishers, whose president Henry Hinrichsen commissioned the Mount St. Helens Symphony in 1981, generously sponsored this Armenian premiere.
Messrs. Berkofsky and Sari, who had given the world premiere of the Two Piano Concerto in Moscow's Tchaikovaky Hall, appeared at this concert by invitation of the Armenian Embassy in Moscow.
