16 May, 2010, 12:00 PM, St. Mary's Armenian Church, Washington, D.C. Pianist Martin Berkofsky performs 12 Armenian Dances and Mt. Katahdin Sonata



Saturday afternoon, 3:00 PM, 15 May 2010, violist Robert Raymond will present a marathon programme of Hovhaness viola works, perhaps the first time ever that such a programme has been conceived. Included will be the viola concerto, Talin, Op. 93, named after the Talin Cathedral built in the seventh century in Armenia, (with members of the Northwestern University Orchestra,) two unaccompanied works, Chahagir, Op. 56a ("Torchbearer,") composed in 1945 following Hovhaness' decision to destroy many of his earlier works, the Sonata for Solo Viola, Op. 423, one of Hovhaness' late works composed in 1995, and the 1982 Campuan Sonata, Op. 371, for viola and piano named after the Campuan Temple in Bali. Pianist Martin Berkofsky will join Mr. Raymond for this performance.
